Seattle is Going Carbon Neutral
Story Objective: Generate excitement and highlight deep community involvement in Seattle City Council efforts to become the first carbon neutral city in North America.
Project Background: This video is part of RACE TO ZERO CITY, an initiative aimed to incite, document and accelerate a competition to create the first carbon neutral city in North America. Founded by Catalytica, in partnership with STAVE Architecture and Urbanism, RACE TO ZERO CITY is bringing together a community of storytellers, educators, businesses, activists, hackers, and others to collaborate in building on-line and in-person platforms to share ideas, lessons, success, and inspiration to change our urban environments. Tuning: A Tale of Adventures in Learning
Story Objective: Communicate the objectives, lessons and outcomes of a 3-state pilot project in higher education, called Tuning USA, and help stakeholders, especially faculty, quickly comprehend the value and challenges of this process that was previously misinterpreted and difficult for many to understand.
Project Background: Catalytica was awarded a yearlong grant from the Lumina Foundation for Education to visually document the Tuning USA pilot project and share our learning with project stakeholders. Our discovery and interview process uncovered misconceptions and concerns held by faculty-participants in the project; sharing these discoveries contributed to the Foundation’s learning and subsequent course-corrections throughout the pilot process.
Our ultimate challenge (and goal) was to accurately reflect concerns and aspirations common to all faculty members we met during the process, in a way that was both honest and inspirational…strong approval from them indicates we were successful.
High Schools in Crisis **
Story Objective: Build public will in communities across the country to transform and improve their public high schools.
Project Background: This short advocacy documentary was created for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as a communication tool for a network of grassroots organizers that could not afford to produce multimedia materials on their own. Created to be screened for groups of parents, students, teachers and other citizens gathered in schools and community centers across the nation, the video was accompanied by a customizable Power Point presentation in which organizers input education data specific to the community to make information even more relevant to the audience.
** Indicates project was produced by Catalytica team while on staff at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
